As part of the Accelerate 465 highway project on the west side of Indianapolis, the Indiana Department of Transportation set in place a concrete tunnel under Interstate 465 to accommodate the future B&O Trail. Previously a bridge span carried the highway over the former railroad between 10th and 21st Streets.  In the next year or so, that bridge will be removed, and the highway will be supported by earth covering the recently installed tunnel.  We are hopeful that the DOT will salvage the steel I-beams from the bridge, so that they can be used to carry the B&O Trail across Little Eagle Creek just to the east.  It is very encouraging to see the State making such an investment for the B&O Trail!
