B&O Trail Association

and the Hendricks County Trail Development Association

16 Miles is Ours!
On Tuesday, December 8, 2009, our B&O Trail Association became the proud owner of 16 miles of abandoned railroad corridor in Hendricks County!  The purchase from CSX Transportation finally closed after several years of negotiations with the company and several government agencies.  With this property in hand, and the first 1000 feet of pavement on the ground, we are poised to take advantage of substantial federal and state grants to construct several more miles of paved trail between Raceway Road and SR 267 in Brownsburg in 2010.  This will NOT be possible, however, without the financial contributions of each and every one of our members and supporters.  These grants all require up-front local "matches".  This means that we have to have 20% of cost of construction in hand before receiving additional grant money.  This matching money can amount to several hundreds of thousands of dollars!  Every dollar counts, so please consider the value this great trail would provide to you and your family, and just click on the button to the right today.  We are getting closer to our $50,000.  As of January 20, we have raised $35,177!!  (Click here for "thank yous")  Please help us reach our goal with a generous contribution today.

Annual Membership Meeting

Join us for our annual meeting of members on Monday, February 22, 7pm at the Brownsburg Town Hall (Eaton Hall). Dale Brier, Trail Chief with the Indiana Department of Natural Resources, will be sharing the State's progress on the Statewide Trails Plan. Members will hear first-hand about the past year's progress on the B&O Trail, view maps of our recent purchase and future plans and have the opportunity to vote for Board Members and Officers. Refreshments will be provided.

First Construction

The first 1000 feet of asphalt has finally been laid west of Raceway Road into Hendricks County. This demonstration project includes a rest area in memory of our past board member, Dianne Vonnegut. This initial project also includes a horse trail, one foot gravel shoulders and stylish informational signs reminiscent of old railroad semaphores. As work hopefully begins next year further to the west, this portion will see landscaping and a final coat of asphalt.
